Goldenballs: Jose Mourinho
The FPL Gods have finally started to smile on my season! There was a point on Saturday where it looked like it had all gone to shit, but a few late goals and very fortuitous Sunday made this week an absolute corker!
For the second week running Spurs tank a team at home in the early kick off. I was a little worried going without Kane (12 pts) for this game, but felt I had adequate Spurs coverage in Alli (6 pts) and Son (10 pts). And thankfully I was right! Alli contributed his usual returns, but it was the Korean Prince yet again who get the real haul. His goal and assist were enough to negate the 12 point haul brought home by Kane. Surprisingly no managers in my mini league captained the Englishman so the damage was minimal. Son is my shining light in the last few weeks, he’s great because unless you have him already, it’s a very risky transfer with the threat of rotation and seemingly more nailed on choices like Alli and Eriksen (7pts). So I’m hopeful he continues to drag my team up the leaderboards.
The 3 o’clocks started poorly with Vardy (9pts) making me rue my last min decision to get rid. The threat of rotation swing my mind, however it almost backfired terribly. Thankfully my replacement cushioned the blow with the equaliser for palace. Benteke (6pts) is a frustrating FPL asset but is a great differential for the doubles! His form is strong and is playing in a confident palace team. Hoping for more from the big Belgian. My Everton contingent looked like they were going to bring back nothing until they combined for a late 3rd! Baines (6pts) picked up the assist for Lukaku’s (6pts) latest goal. It’s a dream scenario for a FPL manager when you have the creator and finisher, even more so when one has the armband. A very welcome 11 point swing for GSL!!
The late kick off saw Tadic (2pts) do absolute nothing yet again. Missing good chances and generally frustrating FPL managers that have taken the punt on the Serbian. The only victory from this game was Augero being restricted to 6 points, he’s due an explosive haul and not owning him does make watching City almost unbearable.
Sunday was where the gods really gave me a helping hand. Valencia (6pts) got an unexpected clean sheet which not only got me good points but meant Chelsea’s attacking assets all blanked! But it was Alonso’s last min omission that had me celebrating. Harry Maguire (7pts) scoring (again) on Saturday was initially a cause of frustration as he sat deep on my bench. However due to Stones and Alonso not playing, down came big Harry (face too big for his facial features) Maguire!! A wondrous slice of luck that helped me make further gains on the league! This game could not have gone any better for GSL, even Zlatan getting 0 points!! The goldenballs award for this week goes the the special one for masterminding a great result for GSL. Thanks Jose, much appreciated!!
Mondays game saw another GSL player deliver points, as Sanchez (7pts) ended his mini drought with a sumptuous free kick. Arsenal we’re still terrible, but Sanchez looked happier in his role and had a much better game than his last outing. Hopefully this win is what Arsenal need to snap out of this odd lull that isn’t a part of the standard Arsenal season. This is usually the part where they have recovered from the March meltdown and routinely smash teams! Maybe the FA cup semi is delaying things a little!
Overall a great GW! Differentials delivered and a great slice of luck! Very close to the podium places now, need the gods to keep smiling and I could have a barnstorming end to the season!
