Straight into the action again after only 2 days from GW30 finishing. I was happy to see that the Letdowns finally gained some points on 1st place, but I was disappointed to see that Dele Alli was drafted into their team which negated the impact he made. So I need more differentials in the team if I plan on making more ground.
Okay, this is the week where I need my defence to step up. They were shocking in the last game week but there are some more favourable fixtures this week so fingers crossed. I’m sticking with Eldin Jakupovic in goal. He’s at home against Middlesbrough in a massive fixture for both teams. Boro don’t have much attacking threat but it’s a game they need to win so they have to score… I could go with Ben Foster who is away at Watford but I don’t know which West Brom are going to turn up and Jakupovic is a differential to 1st place (who has Foster). I need to gain points not block 1st from getting points. So as much as I want Middlesbrough to beat Hull, the silver lining would be a clean sheet for Jakupovic.
The defence is more straight forward. Marcos Alonso is still in the team but is at home against Man City so I don’t expect anything from him, especially as Chelsea can’t keep clean sheets at the minute. Ryan Bertrand is again in the team after his impressive debut and now finds himself at home against Crystal Palace. I’m hoping big Sam tries to defend his way to a 0-0 here, especially as Palace are getting closer and closer to Premier League survival. Stephen Ward finds his way back into the team as Burnley face Stoke at Turf Moor. Stoke are shit, Burnley are shit but they need to get back to form as they’re slowly getting closer to the relegation zone (which has gone unnoticed by every footballing pundit…). They need at least a point and at home they’re decent. Finally, a new addition to the Letdowns and somewhat of a risk is Ben Davies of Spurs. He’s incredibly cheap, is in the starting 11 and plays wing back. Kyle Walker returns from injury so will start, but I’m putting my chips down that Davies starts ahead of Trippier on the left. It’s certainly been the case previously but it would be my luck if that all changes.
I can see a few clean sheets here actually and possibly an assist. Bertrand, Davies and Alonso both play wing backs for their teams and they all get forward a lot and have all contributed goals or assists this season. Prediction: 21 points.
My entire midfield are up against each other this week which is risky as fuck but lets start with Manuel Lanzini. Again he was easily West Hams best player against Hull (it didn’t take much as they were awful) and was unlucky not to score with a long range effort he had that Jakupovic managed to get a fingertip to it and push it around the post. He’s away at Arsenal so I don’t expect much really but I think he’ll get a chance so it’s 50/50 whether he takes it or not.
Gylfi Sigurdsson really needs to up his game is Swansea want to move away from the relegation zone but they’re at home to Spurs this week so that’s not happening. I don’t expect anything from him at all but my options are limited.
Obviously we have the main man, Dele Alli. Away at Swansea and I fully expect him to get something here. Without Harry Kane, he has stepped up and should have scored 2 goals against Burnley in GW30. Hopefully he gets his finishing boots back on and produces.
And finally, finishing off the four man midfield is the only Arsenal player I would ever consider in my team (forget about Giroud please) and that’s Alexis Sanchez. Yes, he’s back in the Letdown’s after Sadio Mane’s injury. He was out for 3 weeks but that was never going to be long term and I was always looking at transferring Mane out for him anyway. He’s at home to West Ham this week which is a team without Winston Reid and starts Jose Fonte. Sanchez if played as a striker should run riot.
I’m relying on Alli and Sanchez this week to really bring home the bacon (Unless you’re a weird veggie…). I need goals and I can see two, prediction: 18 points.
Well I don’t see much from the strikers this week. We have Sergio Aguero away at Chelsea, who although can’t keep clean sheets, they will not want to lose this game so will likely be more defensive than they have been all season. And Romelu Lukaku away at Man United, and he seems to go missing in the big matches.
I did bring in Gabbiadini from Southampton this week (My 3rd transfer) in hope that he would be fit to face Crystal Palace but as soon as I did so, articles came out that said he wouldn’t be fit enough and will instead return for GW32… brilliant. I traded out Fernando Llorente this week so naturally he’ll return to the Swansea team after his mysterious injury and score against Spurs.
I don’t see anything here. Aguero didn’t do much against Arsenal but finished one of his two chances but other than that he didn’t do much. Lukaku / Everton were awful in the Merseyside Derby and this is another big match for them so god knows which Everton will turn up. Prediction: 4 points.
There are only really two options for the Letdown’s this week, Dele Alli or Alexis Sanchez. Alli is in great form and is the centre piece of the Spurs attack without Kane but his away form is can be patchy. Sometimes he delivers and sometimes he doesn’t. Contrast this with his home form where he more often than not delivers solid points… Sanchez on the other hand struggled against City and could easily be played out on the left hand side (though he definitely shouldn’t be against West Ham). He did absolutely destroy West Ham the last time they played, scoring a hat trick and getting an assist. I feel he may be the safer choice and at the moment, he isn’t part of the team in 1st place so is a big differential. Though I feel that won’t last long and he’ll be drafted it this week. Still, I think he’s the safer and more logical choice for Captaincy… Hmm.
This is the first game week where I haven’t looked at any other teams and compared their players/fixtures with the Letdown’s. As much as I talk about the 1st place team in the league, I’m more just concentrating on finishing either 2nd or 3rd in the league. I want next season to start already so I can get back to winning my FPL league, I can make bigger strides in the Overall league and I can watch Middlesbrough actually win games in the Championship. Time is going by so slowly.
