Points: 54 (Predicted 52)
League: 5th
Goldenballs: Alexis Sanchez

It was almost a disaster, Saturday was underwhelming to say the least, leaving the stage set for Alexis to save the day! I admit I was already in a full blown depression, after putting the phone away at 1-1 in the 95th min. But OH MY!!! 98th min winner from the little Chilean (queue jubilant celebrations) GET IN THERE!!! He was the difference between an absolute shocker and a respectable week, thank you Alexis! You wonderful man.

THE GOOD

Apart from Sanchez‘s heroics, the big plus this week was my reluctance to take a 4 point hit. I was a tap away from sending Siggy on his bike and getting in Pedro for this GW. Siggy comes up with the goods against Liverpool and Pedro blanks at Hull!! 8 point gain!! Howay the lads! A great example of how last minute decisions are a bad idea.

My other transfer last week, Calum Chambers didn’t get the clean sheet I was after, but did pop up with an assist! 5 points on his GSL debut was very welcome. The defence had a strong week again, with Baines and Alonso getting a clean sheet. Heaton‘s save haul brought home 3 points, giving the backline a total of 20 points. 57 points in the past 2 weeks from the defence! Unbelievable Jeff!!

The Goldenballs award is an easy one this week. Sanchez was always expected to perform, and 8 points isn’t amazing, but last minute points make it so much sweeter. And holding the captains armband made it so so important.

THE BAD

Phillips was a bit of a let down at home against Sunderland, only bringing back 3 points. Especially with the other common West Brom assets delivering big hauls, Gareth McAuley can go to hell.. Eriksen was another to blank whilst his team mates cashed in. Alli and Kane brought home attacking returns as the usually reliable Dane stayed quiet. Alli is in incredible FPL form at the moment, but swapping Spurs cover isn’t a big priority at the moment.

Now for the real shit show.. starring 2 of the top value FPL assets. Ibra‘s form has been unreal for weeks now, so I can put it down to the law of averages that a blank was inevitable. He has a great chance to get back on track with Hull at home in his next game. Augero continues to frustrate FPL managers.. the usually indispensable fantasy asset is floundering blanking in 3/4 of his games back. Not good enough Sergio.. City did look better against Spurs and Augero did look sharper, but sharper doesn’t translate to 12.8m worth of fantasy points.. He’s got 2 more games before he gets the hook! West Ham and Swansea up next should give him ample opportunity to remind us all how important he is.

Elsewhere the league leader continued their majestic January, moving further ahead.. The gaps over 150 now, so going to need a miracle to get anywhere near the top spot.

But overall a good week! Good fixtures next week will hopefully round off a successful January!

Preview to follow!

Pray for points
