Well that was unexpected. I’m beginning to wonder what I know about Fantasy Football but then a quick look at my points haul and quickly realise that sub consciously I’m a genius!
Points: 85 (Predicted: 43!)
League position: 3rd (+1)
Bellend of the week: Glyfi Sigurdsson
Where do I start!? Let’s start with the ever present Marcos Alonso who once again brought home a clean sheet and a solid 6 points. Next, we have Ben Mee, who successfully came through his match with a clean sheet and a 6 point haul.
The star of the defence this week though was Winston Reid, who managed to bag himself a goal and the maximum bonus points to return a huge 11 points! Since being drafted in to the Letdowns,he has returned 27 points (in 3 games!!). Easily my best transfer so far this season.
Next up we have Christian Eriksen who got himself 2 assists to return 10 points. He’s got a tricky set of fixtures coming up so to get a return this week was welcome relief as I have little expectation for points coming up.
Eden Hazard continued his good home form with a 10 point return. This was the week Chelsea had to deal without Diego Costa and Hazard dutifully stepped up.
And finally, the man of the hour, Mr Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The captain for this weeks and he did not disappoint with a goal, 2 assists and maximum bonus points returning 15 points (doubled to 30!). For some reason, only a handful of managers in the league opted for the big Swede and not all that did decided to captain him so a big points haul helped me take full advantage and reduce the deficit to the leader to 27 points! It was 54 before this game week to half it in one week is incredibly fortunate.
There weren’t too many under performers this week. I didn’t expect anything more that the standard 2 points from Glenn Whelan and Victor Anichebe and they delivered. Also Jordan Pickford brought home the bonus point I was hoping for at Old Trafford so 9 of the 11 players in the Letdowns achieved what was expected or excelled.
There was still a couple of minor disappointments however, starting with Alexis Sanchez. At home against West Brom and being the main striker you’d expect a world class player to find a way through a tight defense. It wasn’t the case though and Sanchez even found himself on the right wing as Giroud made his first Premier League start of the season, leaving Alexis to return just 3 points.
This weeks disappointment though was Glyfi Sigurdsson who returned just 2 points. At home against West Ham, every FPL manager that has the Icelander in their team was expecting a return but no. Nothing. He was easily Swansea’s best player and made a solid contribution to their attacking threat with 3 key passes and 3 shots (2 on target) but it meant nothing where it matters.
Bellend of the week
Congratulations, Gylfi Sigurdsson. Your incredibly inept FPL performance made you an easy candidate for this weeks Bellend of the week award. Apart from one good gameweek, you’ve been very lacklustre and sets you up for a transfer though with a home match against Bournemouth coming up, perhaps I can wait one week.
The boxing day matches certainly surprised me with how well the Letdowns performed. They achieved almost double what I had predicted in my preview for Game week 18!
This week I’m sacrificing 10 virgins, brewing a luck potion and rewatching Christmas movies. Pray for the continued points haul!
